Okay, this is not going to be a blog post taken in the town of Remington today, but it is about people from our community. Twelve women, including myself, who work at Tri-County Middle/Senior High School from our principal to support staff went on a weekend trip to Hocking Hills, Ohio. Mrs. Goad, our principal, planned this trip and opened it up to all female staff at the school. Twelve of us made the trip.
We got there late Friday evening and broke into two groups on Saturday morning for our 3 hour "Canopy Tour." We zip-lined and climbed on rope bridges through the tree tops. It was an awesome weekend! After zip-lining into the afternoon, we then went hiking on several trails at the state park, seeing caves and waterfalls.
Some of the women have worked at Tri-County over 20 years, and others have been with us for only two or three. It was a great weekend renewing friendships, and getting to know each other in a non-school setting. See if you recognize any of these faces.

Wade Zetterberg
Today's Remingtonite is Wade Zetterberg. Wade is a graduate of Clinton Central, but has lived in Remington for the last 6 years. He is married to Heather Alberts, whose parents grew up in Remington. He and his wife are the parents of two young boys, Drew and Jack.
I found Wade tonight at the Tobias Center at the library. He is in charge of one of the activities that will culminate during Remington's Sesquicentennial Celebration; Remington's own "Biggest Loser" contest. Tonight was the weigh-in for teams of 4 and the final weigh-in will on July 14.
Wade told me that growing up in rural Clinton County made him think that he wanted to move away from small towns. He moved to New York City for a short time and knew that was not where he wanted to live! He loves Remington and is currently a stay-at-home dad. He wants to become a writer and is currently a member of the Prairie Writer's Guild. Welcome to Remington Wade!

Scott and Derek
I promise, this is the last post about my family, at least for now. :) I took this picture of my sons on Scott's graduation day. They have both grown up in Remington and graduated from Tri-County High School. It was a beautiful day in California, much nicer than it was back in Remington on the 12th of February.
Scott and Jordan
As I said earlier, I was in San Diego in February to attend the graduation of my son, Scott, from Marine Boot Camp. He was not the only Remington native graduating that day. Jordan Coty, son of Mike and Gina Coty also graduated. So, even though this should have been posted in February, it was not, so I am doing it now. These two young men made it through the toughest boot camp training of any of the armed services, and I for one, am very proud of them. Plus, there's something about a man in a uniform. :)
I'm back up and running!
I apologize for my long absence from this blog. The month of February was a bit of a challenge for me. Most of you who know me know that my son graduated from Marine Boot Camp on February 12, and my father died the day before that graduation. Then my new Marine also got married--all in about 10 days. I got out of the routine and have finally caught up with my work, so it is time to jump back in.
My picture of the day was taken right outside my front door. School was canceled for the day, and I didn't think about it earlier, when the fog was REALLY bad, but you still can't see too far down our street.

Norma Rowland
Tonight I was at the home of Norma Rowland. A familiar name to many people in the town of Remington. Norma grew up in Remington and has lived in Remington or just outside of it her entire life. She graduated from Remington High School and married her high school sweetheart, Randy Rowland.
Norma is pictured tonight in fashions from Cabi by Invitation. She is a consultant for this home clothing line. She was showing the spring line tonight to some of her regular customers, including me. This is her 13th season of clothing, and she absolutely loves this job.
Norma is co-chairperson of the Remington Sesquicentennial of 2010. You will also find her at Fountain Park this summer, and every summer!
Tonight we are looking at the possibility of some major snow accumulation. We shall see......

Borage and Karen
Today's picture is actually from Christy Young, who is the librarian at Tri-County MSHS. I will also correct some of the things I wrote last night. This program was sponsored by the Tri-County Libraries as well as both libraries in Remington and Wolcott. She also told me that there were over 200 people in attendance, not 100 as I had reported last night. It was a hit!

Karen Land and Borage
The Tri-County community was visited by Karen Land and Borage tonight. The Wolcott Library and the Remington Carpenter Township Library sponsored her talk. Karen has participated in the Idatirod Sled Dog Race in Alaska three times, along with Borage. It was a delightful evening as she told about the dedication and work it takes for a musher and their dogs to ever get to the point of being allowed to run the Iditarod, which is over 1000 miles long. There were well over 100 people in attendance, old and young alike. As Karen talked, Borage wandered among the crowd. If you want to learn more about Karen Land and her dogs, check out her web site www.mymusher.com
Below I have included several pictures of Borage and some of the people at the high school tonight.

....The Rest of the Story
Well, in last night's post, I told the story of former Purdue basketball player, Curt Clawson, offering to take a picture of some Tri-County boys enjoying yesterday's victory over Penn State for me, since I had left my camera in the car.
I checked my e-mail tonight, and there, as promised, was an e-mail from Curt Clawson with the picture he had taken. Wow, that was awesome! I was hoping I would get it some time, but never did I imagine it would be that fast. So thank you, Curt, you are a class act!
The Tri-County boys pictured below are Justin Hall, Luke Pritchett, and Michael Hammer. Justin and Luke are seniors at Tri-County and Michael is a junior. They were quite noticeable since they were wearing Colts jerseys and in the bottom section. They had just finished giving high fives to the players as they were leaving the floor when this picture was taken. They were quite brave wearing those jerseys into Mackey Arena, :) since the Colts opponent in the Super Bowl this Sunday is the Saints being led by former Purdue quarterback Drew Brees. Lots of torn people around here---Do you cheer for the Colts or for Drew's team. We shall see, but I for one, will still be cheering on the Colts. The pain, should we lose, will be a little less with Drew being part of that team.

A Lesson Learned
Today, I was lucky enough to go to a Purdue basketball game with some friends. Once we parked the car, I decided to do what the other women were doing, and leave my purse in the car, instead of having to carry it with me. I took along some money and my cell phone, and that was it.
At half time of the game, who shows up in the aisle right next to where we were sitting, but Gene Keady! For those of you who are not Purdue fans, he coached at Purdue for over 20 years. He had walked over from the other side of the arena to visit with a sweet lady sitting in front of us. She is the mother of a former Purdue player, Curt Clawson (sp?). Anyway, I digress. :) My first thought was "grab my camera and get his picture." You guessed it, it was in my purse...in the car. Then after the game, I noticed three Tri-County students high fiving the Purdue players as they headed off the court.
My thought again was: "Grab my camera!" That would be a great picture to put on this blog!! But alas, my camera was locked up in Carol's car. So, I whined a little, and Curt Clawson, who was in front of me heard me, so he offered to take a picture of the boys, and said he would send me the picture if I gave him my e-mail address. Well, I did, and we shall see if he remembers to send the picture on. If so, I will post it on this blog.
LESSON LEARNED: Take your camera with you everywhere you go! You never know when you might want to use it. :)

Monsanto Corn Production Facility
Monsanto Corn Production Facility is located just north of Remington on US 231. Over the past year or so, the plant has expanded a great deal.
Those of you who have lived in Remington for a number of years, know that this location was originally a DeKalb Seed Corn Company location. Although that has all changed, the DeKalb emblem, a giant ear of corn, can be seen on one of the buildings facing the highway.
As you can see from the picture, the sun was out today, but the temperatures were in the 20s all day.

Steve Kinsell & Spider Sigo
Today I decided to stop in at Silver Lane Hybrids and found two "Remingtonites" inside.
Spider Sigo is a Remington native. He is the Office Manager at Silver Lane, and is the husband of Barb. He remembers working at Silver Lane as a teenager when Remington was celebrating their centennial. He was working for Steve's dad at the time. Although Spider and his wife no longer live in the town of Remington, he says his heart is still here and always will be. Great memories!
Steve Kinsell was also raised in Remington. Both men are graduates of Remington High School. Steve left Remington for a few years, going off to college, and then working in Houston, Texas for Exxon Pipeline Co for two years. Houston is where he met his wife, Karyl. They have 3 adult children. Steve is President of Silver Lane Hybrids, member and treasurer of the Remington Lions Club, a member of the Tri-County Educational Foundation, and is also treasurer for the RWCDC. Steve was also President of the Town Council for 16 years.

Sue Waibel
Well, as expected, the beautiful blue sky we saw on Sunday was no where to be found today. Gray skies, wind, and snow flurries. January is back. :(
I headed back to the library today because I needed a book to read, and decided to get a picture of our Library Director, Sue Waibel. Sue grew up in Remington and graduated from Tri-County a "few" years ago. She has been the Library Director for the past six years. Before that, she ran "Sue's Greenhouse" just north of Remington.
Sue says she loves the friendliness of a small town, and really enjoys working with the children who come in for the different programs she sets up. Stop and and say Hi! to Sue.

Remington United Methodist Church
I am glad today is Sunday. Since I am trying to post a picture of one the churches in Remington each Sunday. (until I run out of churches:) The reason I am glad is since I took a picture outside, everyone can see that the sun was actually shining today and there was some blue sky too! I'm not sure when I last saw the sun, but I know it has been a while.
This is a picture of the Remington United Methodist Church.

Adam Berger Family
Adam Berger, his wife Lacey, and their son Jeffery are back in Remington this weekend visiting family. Adam's mother lives across the street from me, so I stopped by to see them.
Adam grew up in Remington and graduated from Tri-County in 2000. His wife Lacey is originally from Delphi. Adam is a Purdue graduate, and they now live in Fort Wayne. He works for BAE Systems, a company that produces aeronautical parts. Lacey is also a Purdue graduate and she is a kindergarten teacher at Imagine Charter School in Fort Wayne. They brought their two dogs along, but they didn't make it in the picture. :)

Linda Arvin
After picking up my mail this evening, I noticed that the lights were still on at John Casey's Law Office. So, I stopped in and found a life long Remington resident working. It was Linda Arvin.
Linda is the co-chairman of the Remington Sesquicentennial Committe. She is a life-long resident of Remington. She is married to Scott Arvin, and the two of them have four children, and six grandchildren. She works at the Law Office of John T. Casey as a legal secretary. Linda is a member of the Palestine Christian Church of Wolcott.
Tonight, we have freezing rain outside, and it was another gray day. Guess it's January in Indiana! :)

Dr. Jan Yerk
My apologies to my one follower. :) I came home last night and completely forgot to post to this blog. To make up for this, I will post 2 pictures today.
Dr. Jan Yerk has been working as a veterinarian in Remington since 1985. She started with right out of Vet School with Doc Burton. She's been taking care of small animals in and around Remington for nearly 25 years!
Dr. Yerk lives in the Round Grove area of White County and is the mother of two children, both of whom I taught in the sixth grade. I just learned today that she is also a grandmother! Congratulations!

Amy Moore
Today's picture is of Amy Moore. If you ever eat at or get carry-out at Justice's Remington Pizza King, you might see Amy. She has been working there for the past six months. Amy is a 1980 graduate of Tri-County High School. Although Amy works here in Remington, she resides in Wolcott. She says she loves living in a small town, and would never want to move to a big city.

First Christian Church
Since today is Sunday, I decided to take a picture of another church in the town of Remington. This is the First Christian Church of Remington. It is another familiar landmark in town. In fact, you go right past it when you are heading for downtown Remington.
Another cloudy and cool day, staying in the low 30s.

Harry Schwier & Lillian Tolley
Today, I headed to the Post Office to find my next picture. Once again, I got a bonus! Two people in one shot. Harry Schwier and Lillian Tolley.
Lillian and her husband moved here in 1988 and made Remington their home. Lillian is the OIC at the Remington Post Office. She is the mother of two children, Jason and Laura. She has worked for the US Postal Service for 25 years, and has worked several different post offices. Lillian says the people of Remington are the best ever, and she believes she is lucky that they chose this town to settle down in. Thanks Lillian!
Harry Schwier is a familiar face to people who have lived in Remington for awhile. He's lived here for 50 years and is a retired mail carrier. He still helps out in the back every so often. Harry used to own "Harry's" for those of you who have been around Remington for awhile. Those of you who are newer residents, like me, know the place as Milley's now. (But that's another day and another picture!) Harry also helps run the American Legion in Remington. He says the whiskers on his face are for the Sesquicentennial Celebration coming up in July!
Gray day, but once again in the 30s, so the snow continues to melt.

Raychal Blackburn
Tonight, I had to gas up my car, so I headed to Casey's General Store. I went inside to pay, and decided that this would be a good place to get today's picture. The first person I asked inside the store, turned me down! That was a first, but that's okay, it probably won't be my last refusal.
Raychal Blackburn did agree to let me take her picture and put her on this blog. Raychal works at Casey's, and was working tonight in the kitchen. She said tonight was a very busy night. She'd made 40 pizzas, and it wasn't even 9:00 yet! She also works as a cashier, so if you ever stop in at Casey's for gas, pop, food, or whatever, you might see her smiling face.
Raychal has lived in Remington her entire life. She has a 4 year old son and is expecting her second child later this year. Thanks Raychal for letting me include you in my one year pictorial of Remington, Indiana.
Snow is melting away, and the temp was in the 30s again today, but no sun. :(

Denice Wilken
Many people from the town of Remington will recognize today's picture. It is none other than Denice (Merritt) Wilken. Denice works as the secretary at Tri-County Primary School. She has been an employee here for a very long time. Remington has been Denice's home her entire life. She is married to another Remington native, Ron Wilken. Anyone who walks into the Primary School will be greeted by her smiling face.
Denice has two grown children, Travis and Shannon. Neither of them still live in Remington, but maybe I'll get lucky sometime during the rest of this year, and be able to get a picture of one of them when they are back in town visiting. :)
Another day in the 30s, WooHoo! The downside to that is all the mess the melting creates. Not to mention the "titanium" snow piles that are created during this time.

Agnes Dombrowski
I love it when the sun starts to stick in the sky a little longer each day! It makes me think that we might make it to spring!!
Today, I decided to stop at our town library, the Remington Carpenter Township Library to see who I might find inside. Turns out that Agnes Dombrowski was working today and was gracious enough to let me take her picture. Agnes and her husband moved to Remington back in 1973 from Chicago. Remington must have been quite a change of pace for them, but obviously it was a good one because they are still here. :) She says she loves the town and the people of Remington.
Agnes says she has been working at our library for 38 years. Wow! She is currently the Assistant Librarian and the Assistant Treasurer for the library. If you are a library patron, I'm sure you have seen her smiling face there many times. You can find Agnes working at the library about five days out of every week. Stop in and tell her you saw her on the Internet!
Weather is improving!! We are now in the 30s! It feels like we're having a heat wave!

Mark Legler & Andy Overly
I had to work late tonight, so by the time I was driving through Remington, it was getting dark, and I knew I needed to find someone soon to get a picture of! I saw several cars outside the old True Value building, and the side door was open with lights on. So.......in I went.
Sitting there was Remington native Mark Legler, and his good friend Andy Overly. (Plus a couple of other men who promptly moved out of camera range :) ) They were sitting in the warehouse of Mark's business; VEN Enterprises. He started this vending machine business almost 10 years ago, and it is still going strong. Mark is married to Chris, and they have three children from college age to middle school.
Andy is the pastor at Tri-County Bible Church north of Remington on SR 231. I know he is married and has five boys!

Randy Sparks
As I was driving home from work today, I saw two vehicles parked at the Remington First Christian Church, so I figured I would find someone inside who would let me take their picture. :) I was right! Today's picture is that of the Pastor at the First Christian Church, Randy Sparks.
Randy has been pastor here for seven and one half years. How time flies! He is married to Lisa, and they have four children and two grandchildren. Randy says he loves the town of Remington mainly because of the great people who live here. I think I would have to agree with him on that.
Today's temp stayed in the 20s and I don't think I ever saw the sun today! The news says the last time we were at freezing or above was New Year's Eve. I hope their predictions are correct, and we will begin to make it back into the 30s later this week.

Historical Land Mark
Well, another day in Remington with the temps still in the teens, maybe 20s. The sun came out for awhile today, but the clouds took over by mid-afternoon. They say it is going to get back into the 30s by the end of the week.
Today I thought I would take a picture of the old Remington Water Tower. It is a landmark in this town, and I will probably take another one of this site when the weather gets nicer.
As I said on the first day of this blog, I am not a professional photographer, and I think this picture makes it very clear. After I got home, I realized that I those wonderful wires running across the top of this picture, and by that time the light was gone! Sorry about that!

Winter Scene
Okay, so today I was a little lazy. It was one of those days when I didn't want to go anywhere outside due to the cold weather. So today's picture of Remington is that of my neighbor's house. Since snow dominated the end of the week here, I think it is appropriate to show what it looked like. Plus, I didn't have to go too far to get it. :) You can also see the new Remington water tower in the distance.

Kim Valentine
Today, the person I took a picture of is Kim Valentine. She is married to David Valentine and they have one daughter. Kim has been living in Remington since 1991, and she loves living here. She has made a lot of friends in the last 19 years, and now considers Remington her home town! A great place to live.
I found Kim tonight at the Remington Carpenter Township Library in the Roy Tobias Room. The library is sponsoring a "Scrapbooking" time tonight and tomorrow during the day, and Kim was one of nine people there working on creating new pages of memories. They all seemed to be having a wonderful time. I, on the other hand, came only to get a picture of someone for the blog. Since it is still very cold outside, I decided to look in a warm place. :)
Tri-County Schools were canceled for the day because of the snow and blowing winds, especially on the county roads. We ended up with around 6 inches of snow before the wind started up. I am ready for it to at least return to "seasonable" temperatures!

Josh and Angelyn
Well, I guess snow is expected in January, and it is definitely living up to its billing today. Tri-County Schools dismissed two hours early because of heavy snow and the possibility of strong winds. Ahhh, gotta love Indiana weather. As I swept off my sidewalk, there had to be at least 4 or 5 inches on the ground. Haven't watched the news to get the "official" amount yet.
On my way home from work, I decided to drive past Remington's favorite hill for sledding. It's the hill near the old locker plant. I was hoping to find the perfect person/people for today's picture. I was not disappointed!! Today's picture features a brother/sister duo; Josh and Angelyn. They have lived in Remington their entire life and were just getting ready to head down the hill. They were kind enough to stop and let me take their picture first. By the time I had gotten back into my car, they had both been down the hill once, and back up ready for many more runs, I'm sure. The cold did not seem to bother them at all. This is what memories are made of. :)

Andy Overmyer
Today's Remington resident is Andy Overmyer. His family moved to the Remington area about 15 years ago. He is a Tri-County graduate. While in high school and even when he was home from Vincennes University, you could find Andy working at the Remington IGA. Through the years, I think he has probably worked every job there. After graduation from Vincennes University, Andy returned to Remington. He is currently the Assistant Store Manager at the Remington IGA. If you get your groceries in town, you have probably seen him working.
We had a mini heat wave today! The temperature actually made it into the 20s. It was beautiful and sunny, even if it was cold. Brrrrr.... but better :)

Sheila Sutter
Yes, I know, this picture was not taken in Remington, Indiana, but anyone who knows Sheila Sutter knows that Purdue and Sheila are one and the same! :) This picture was taken tonight after the Purdue Boilermakers beat the Minnesota Gophers.
It has been one of those crazy days where no matter how hard you are working, you can't get caught up! I'm sure everyone knows what I am talking about. Anyway, by the time I got home from work, it was time to head to Purdue for the game. That equals no time to get a picture in the daylight, or walking around Remington.
Sheila is a life-long resident of Remington. She left long enough to go to Purdue and get her degree in Education. She came back to Remington to teach, and just retired from teaching this past spring after 34 years at the elementary school. Sheila has touched many young lives through the years, and is now enjoying retirement! Thanks for posing for me tonight Sheila! GO BOILERS!
By the way, since I started the year talking about the temp, I might as well keep it up. It is still freezing cold, day and night!!! Wind chills still single digits or sub-zero depending on the time of day. Brrrrrrr.............. I'm ready for a slight warm-up. :D

Ivan Reel
Today's pictured person is a man who has lived in Remington for over 50 years. His name is Ivan Reel, and he is on the Remington Carpenter Township Library Board. Tonight was our monthly Board meeting, so I asked if I could take a picture of him. Ivan has also been an Indiana licensed auctioneer since 1945! Way to go Ivan!
Although Ivan looks nice and toasty warm in the picture, outside the cold weather continues to dominate. Not sure when I will begin to take a walk outside to capture the people of Remington in the streets! Highs only got into the teens again today, and wind chills were below zero. Still all I can say is Brrrrrrrrrrrrr..............

Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Today is the first Sunday of the new year, so I thought it would be a good time to take a picture of one of our churches here in Remington. I was on my way to Auburn this morning, so I knew I had to get the picture taken early as I wouldn't be back until after dark. As most of you can probably tell, this is a picture of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Remington. It is a beautiful church inside and out. The weather here is still extremely cold! As this picture was taken it, was once again in the single digits, and sub-zero with the wind chill! The temperature did not really improve too much during the course of the day. Brrrrrrr.........

Recycling in Remington
This morning, I had quite a bit of recycling to bring to our Center. The trailer is only manned on Saturday mornings from 9-11. There is always someone there to help. Actually, it is pretty much always the same guy. His name is Pat Powell, and today he was VERY brave to be out here to help, so I figured the least I could do was take his picture and make him the first "person" to be a part of my year long journey.
Thanks Pat for always being there to help our community recycle! Today, even more so, since the temperature is in single digits this morning! Brrrr....again!

Co-Alliance Grain Elevator
Today's picture is the Co-Alliance Grain Elevator in Remington. This picture was taken from the parking lot of the Pines Apartment. As you can see, there is plenty of snow, and the temperature today only got into the teens. Brrrrrr!
